Therapeutic Services
Physical Therapy
Capernaum offers a variety of physical therapy treatment programs that are tailored specifically to your child’s special needs. Our therapists design programs to focus on improving the muscle strength, balance, posture, range of motion, and/or quality of movement for your child.
We conduct physical therapy sessions in the clinic, the home, or water. If a home program is right for your child, he/she will be seen by the therapist for several sessions to acclimate him/her to the program and instruct the parent/guardian in appropriate care-giving techniques. Pool therapy offers the unique physical properties of water, which may increase the therapeutic benefits of land therapy. Warm water promotes relaxation of muscles, enhances muscle stretch and joint movement, and reduces muscle tone. Cooler temperatures promote postural tone and active exercise. See our Specialized Programs and Sports Groups pages for additional therapeutic services.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists at Capernaum focus on improving your child’s independence with everyday activities such as eating, dressing, playing, and socializing. Our services emphasize the development of fine and visual motor skills, strength, range of motion, and sensory processing.
Our sensory-integration therapy programs focus on helping your child process sensory information (touch, sound, smell, taste, movement, and body awareness). Learning to process this information helps your child improve his/her daily living skills and independence. We work with your child to enable him/her to not only tolerate, but also hopefully enjoy, his/her environment! See our Specialized Programs and Sports Groups pages for additional therapeutic services.
Speech/Language Therapy
Speech language pathologists at Capernaum focus on helping your child communicate functionally in his/her environment. This may include services to address the following areas: articulation/phonologic delay, language delay, understanding and use of language, voice therapy, oral motor therapy, motor speech disorders, phonemic awareness skills, auditory processing, hearing impairments, and augmentative/alternative communication. Our speech language pathologists may assist in the treatment of oral-feeding and swallowing problems as well. See our Specialized Programs and Sports Groups pages for additional therapeutic services.
