Looking for a fun, educational, and nutritious activity for your kids? Now is a perfect time to involve your entire family in the “Colorful Plate Challenge.”
The goal of the Colorful Plate Challenge is to see who in your family can incorporate the most colors into a meal by using a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy, and whole grains. Use single foods or make a new recipe using a blend of colorful foods! The more colors, the better!
The Colorful Plate Challenge can be done two different ways so that everyone can participate!
- One way to participate in the Colorful Plate Challenge activity is by using foods that are readily available in your home at this time. Have your kids check the refrigerator, freezer, or pantry for foods they can choose from to build their colorful plate.
- The second way to participate in the Colorful Plate Challenge is by having your kids draw a plate on a piece of paper (or you can use a paper plate). After they have created their plate, encourage them to come up with and draw out different foods that would make up a colorful meal. Have them color in the foods to represent the foods actual color. All you need for materials is piece of paper, markers, crayons, or colored pencils.
Whoever incorporates the most colors from a variety of foods on their plate wins the contest! Come up with a fun incentive as a family for the winner.
