As parents, balancing all the demands that we encounter is a constant challenge and juggling act. This seminar discusses the extremes of where we can find our life – balanced or burned out. No one wants to get burned out, yet how can we achieve that elusive goal of balance? We will discuss what balance looks like, how to maintain it, stressors that can cause burn-out, and symptoms to pay attention to. Most importantly, we will explore how having the right perspectives can keep you grounded amidst any difficulty.

The development of executive function includes attention, memory, organization, problem solving, time management, social communication, and self monitoring. Many children with language impairment, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, auditory processing disorders, autism, and cognitive impairment, present with deficits in executive function. Poor attention and working memory can prevent learning and can be a barrier to success. Effective intervention requires an accurate identification and targeting of specific deficits within the set of skills known as executive functions, so as to maximize the potential for improvement. This presentation will include the neurological basis for the development of executive function, strategies for analyzing performance during assessments, and intervention methods to address these deficits.

About the speaker:
